Captain "Cappie" John Paul Jones is one of the main characters of the series. He was the president of the Kappa Tau Gamma fraternity at Cyprus-Rhodes University. During his time at KT, he was also the Little Brother of Egyptian Joe and the Big Brother of Rusty Cartwright. He is also a member of the Amphora Society.

Background[]

As a child, Cappie was the only child of two hippie parents who moved around a lot. His parents ran the summer arts and crafts at Camp Kitchiwawa, and Cappie was popular at camp with the other kids. While there, he became close friends with Evan Chambers, the wealthy child of the camp benefactors. When they were both accepted to the same university, Cappie and Evan decided to room together.

Freshman Year (2005-2006)[]

Fall Semester[]

Cappie shared a dorm with Evan, and Evan convinced Cappie - who had no intention of rushing - to go on the rush tour with him for the parties. They arrived at the Kappa Tau Gamma house's rush party where Cappie impressed all the brothers at Kappa Tau. Cappie was immediately attracted when he saw Casey Cartwright at the party, and flirted with her until he realized that Evan had already met her. Although Evan met Casey first, she ended up being more attracted to Cappie and the two became a couple.

Evan had already decided beforehand that he was going to rush Kappa Tau and was pleased with the bid. Since his friend decided to rush Kappa Tau, Cappie rushed as well. They were in the same pledge class as Wade Matthews and Beaver. While rushing Kappa Tau, Egyptian Joe gave Evan the nickname "Bing" to mean "between a bid and a ding." Cappie seemed upset as Egyptian Joe informed Evan that the KTs were on the fence about giving Evan a bid but did so because they wanted Cappie and realized that Cappie wouldn't rush without Evan. To Cappie's shock and frustration, Evan de-pledged Kappa Tau and rushed Omega Chi Delta, despite Cappie's attempt to convince him otherwise.

The two still remained roommates, and had previously spent time with Casey together as the Three Musketeers. Cappie and Evan also spent a lot of the year looking for the secret meeting place of the Amphora Society. Cappie continued to date Casey, who he had fallen in love with, though they began to have issues when their personalities clashed, Cappie being more relaxed and party-focused than Casey.

Spring Semester[]

Cappie and Casey began to spend time away from Evan. Casey dated Cappie for at least six months. During the annual All Greek Ball, Cappie accidentally stood Casey up after he got drunk with his KT brothers right before the ball. Frannie Morgan stormed the KT house, furious with Cappie, and he hurried to the ball. Unbeknownst to him, Casey went to Cappie's dorm and found Evan, who tried to cover for Cappie but ended up telling her the truth. Evan offered to take Casey to the ball as friends, which she accepted. Cappie arrived at the ball and saw Evan slow-dancing with Casey. Cappie accused Evan of betraying him and hitting on his girlfriend. After Evan insulted Cappie's parents, they got into a fist-fight, but Casey decided to stay with Evan to make sure he was alright afterwards. Cappie and Evan became enemies. Sometime after, Casey broke up with Cappie. Cappie never got over the breakup and maintained feelings for Casey (Freshman Daze).

Sophomore Year (2006-2007)[]

Cappie likely spent his second year partying with the Kappa Tau's and having flings with girls, which is mentioned throughout the series. He had a close relationship with Egyptian Joe, his Big Brother, who got him through difficult times. Cappie also changed his major several times, never sticking to one for very long.

Season 1[]

Junior Year (2007-2008)[]

Fall Semester[]

Cappie is now the president of Kappa Tau, still known as the party frat, and is first introduced as Casey's ex-boyfriend and Evan's archenemy. He takes Rusty Cartwright as pledge for Kappa Tau Gamma. After Evan cheats on Casey, she sleeps with Cappie in retaliation, revealing she still holds feelings for Cappie (Pilot.)

Now as the Big Brother of Rusty, Cappie takes him under his wing, favoring Rusty over the other pledges. He tries to help Rusty's confidence by setting him up with a date to hook up with, but Casey convinces Cappie to stop it, citing their own first time with each other being based around love. Cappie agrees with her (The Rusty Nail.) Later on, the fraternities have a floor hockey tournament. For the finals, the KTs have to play against Omega Chi, only made more intense by the rivalry between Cappie and Evan. It's even more incensed when Evan finds out that Cappie slept with Casey during rush week. As the ZBZs side with Omega Chi, the ZBZ girls show up to the KT house the night before the game to sabotage the KTs. During the party, Cappie gets drunk and pulls Casey into a closet, wanting to kiss her, though she rebuffs him. The next morning, Rusty hurries the hungover KTs to the floor hockey match. Cappie puts Rusty in the game's last minute, and Rusty scores the winning goal, though they lose anyway because Rusty wasn't properly uniformed (Picking Teams).

When the annual Vesuvius party hosted by the Kappa Tau house rolls around, Cappie entrusts repairing the volcano to Rusty. After a strict cop is hired, Cappie manages to get a noise permit for the house. The party becomes a hit after the volcano rains beers on Rusty's account, and Cappie tries to flirt with Casey during it (Liquid Courage). Around Halloween during a storm party at Kappa Tou, Cappie finds himself in a lull and doesn't want to drink or sleep with girls. A stranger shows up at the KT house, calling herself Destiny, claiming her motorcycle got a flat nearby. Enthralled by Destiny, Cappie spends the night dancing and flirting with her. As Rusty finds out, "Destiny" is actually Patty, and went to Camp Kitchiwawa, and has had a crush on Cappie for years, using it as motivation to get fit, and coming to the KT house on purpose. Cappie finds her obsession with him attractive, and kisses her only for Patty to be disappointed and leave, leaving Cappie confused (Friday Night Frights).

Cappie later bribes his English class' T.A. with beer to pair him with Casey for an essay. After finishing a successful paper, Casey kisses Cappie until he reveals he bribed the T.A. to pair them together. Casey tells Cappie they can't be together, and after Cappie confesses he only wants to be with Casey, she leaves. Cappie then witnesses Casey being lavaliered by Evan (Multiple Choice). Cappie spirals afterwards and gets drunk at a strip club, wallowing with his frat brothers. Rusty calls Casey to cover their bill and she drives a drunk Cappie back to the KT house (Separation Anxiety). Wanting to pay Casey back later, Cappie signs up for a paid psychology test on campus where he has to stay awake for 30 hours in a test room. The psych student performing the test is Rebecca Logan. Cappie and Rebecca end up enjoying talking with each other and bond over a mutual dislike for their parents. Cappie sends Casey the money afterwards (Depth Perception). After a party at the KT house, Cappie and Rebecca sleep together for the first time (Black & White).

Spring Semester[]

During winter break, Cappie begins a secret friends-with-benefits relationship with Rebecca, though he still has feelings for Casey. At the end of break, Rusty's girlfriend Jen writes an article exposing the Greek system at CRUs in a salacious article, especially the ZBZ house. The Greek system is put on probation as a result, which Cappie refuses honor. Cappie tries to help Rusty get over Jen. During a charity carnival thrown to help repair the Greek houses reputations, Cappie and the KT house run a booth. They notice the ZBZ girls struggling to get attention at their kissing booth, so they KT brothers all go to their booth. Due to a coincidence in the line, Cappie and Casey kiss. Rebecca rushes away, and Cappie chases after her and tells Rebecca that he and Casey are over (A New Normal.)

After Rusty's friend Calvin Owens drops out of Omega Chi, Cappie agrees to take him on as a pledge in order to needle at Evan. Meanwhile, Cappie is still secretly sleeping with Rebecca. Due to the restrictions placed on the Greek houses, the ZBZs decide to host a secret Prohibition themed party, and invite the Kappa Taus. Cappie and Casey plot together: the upstairs of the party with be alcohol and romance-free, while secretly downstairs is an area without restrictions. At the party, Cappie pulls Rebecca into a closet after flirting all night. He tells Rebecca he'd like to be in a relationship with her. and When Dean Boeman arrives to bust the party, Cappie steals a campus cop's golf cart to distract them. The party is saved, but Cappie is given 100 hours of community service as a punishment by Dean Boeman. He confronts Evan - who called the cops on the party in retaliation for trying to steal Calvin - and Cappie calls Evan "Bing" again, promising a counterstrike (The Great Cappie).

In attempt to get the Kappa Tau pledges to bond more, Cappie encourages them to prank the Omega Chi house and tells them to create something new for the house. Egyptian Joe returns and Cappie is embarrassed by the poor example his pledges set by only making a swing. Rebecca and Cappie talk, and Rebecca says she doesn't want to be part of a relationship where Casey comes first. They agree to be official, but Cappie says he needs to tell Casey before anyone else finds out. While completing community service hours, Cappie tells Casey and she feigns excitement. Cappie and Rebecca go on a double date with Casey and guy she brought only to make them mad. When Cappie and Rebecca kiss, Casey starts drinking more. The next night, Cappie and Casey meet up at her request to discuss Rebecca, who she is against him dating, claiming Rebecca isn't good for him. Cappie tells Casey that Rebecca "likes me who for who I am" and leaves. At the KT house the next day, the pledges reveal a beer still. While it only produces sludge, Cappie is pleased they worked together and made an effort (Highway to the Discomfort Zone).

As the war between Kappa Tau and Omega Chi continues, Cappie steals the formal photograph of the Omega Chi's from their house. They arm themselves with water guns full of hot sauce and the Omega Chi brothers storm the house with water guns full of fish oil. After being shot with oil in the eyes by Evan, Cappie is down and the Omega Chi house steals the photograph back. Cappie tries to rally the KTs in the wake of their defeat, and refuses Rusty's truce suggestion. Rusty goes to the Omega Chi house on his own to try to broker peace, unsuccessfully. Cappie is unbothered when the Gamma Chi's duct tape Rusty to a wall of the school, and Rusty suggests a prank in retaliation: putting barnyard animals in the Omega Chi house. Cappie and Evan make a truce, and the war is paused (War and Peace).

The All Greek Ball returns after being cancelled the year prior due to Cappie and Evan's fight. Cappie finds himself feeling nostalgic, like the others, and reflects on his freshman year. Cappie says that the KT house won't be going to the ball, viewing it as too proper, though he relents after Rebecca says she wants to go. Cappie puts on a suit and goes to the ZBZ house to surprise Rebecca. He's stunned by Casey in her dress, and Frannie tells Cappie he's finally there only "two years too late." Cappie takes Rebecca to the ball and, as they slow-dance, he watches Casey (Freshman Daze).

When the Freshman Parent Weekend arrived, Cappie was hoping to meet Rebecca's parents. When Rebecca won't introduce him, and Cappie is secretly hurt. The pledges clean the Kappa Tau house to welcome their parents. Rebecca brings her father, Senator Logan, and introduces Cappie, but only by naming facts about his background and personality that would annoy her father, who she witnessed earlier having an affair. Cappie storms off. Rebecca later apologizes to him and admits that she cares about Cappie, and they make up. Cappie takes her out later that night, much to her father's annoyance (47 Hours and 11 Minutes).

At the end of the season, during Spring Break in Myrtle Beach, he and Casey kiss on the beach after he gets punched by a drunk guy. However, he leaves and goes back to comfort Rebecca who experiences a very difficult time as her senator father's scandals are exposed (Spring Broke).
